Radio Amateur's Handbook
Submitted by amillar on Sun, 2007-12-23 11:51.One of my contributions to Project Gutenberg was proofreeading and formatting of the Radio Amateur's Handbook by Frederick Collins, 1922. You can read the entire book here, including all illustrations.
Older books like this are great for learning from. Since everything about radio was new to everyone, the book does not assume that you have a lot of knowledge to start with, and explains everything starting with the basics.

The Tale of Despereaux
Submitted by amillar on Sat, 2004-03-27 06:35.The Bible as History
Submitted by amillar on Mon, 2004-02-02 11:42.Fascinating book comparing the Bible and archaeology.
First written in the 1950s and then updated in the 1980s, this book surveys many topics in the Bible and compares them to modern archaeological discoveries. From speculations on the flood to the manna of the Israelites, it covers a broad section of items which many people question about the Bible.
Latina Pro Populo
Submitted by amillar on Mon, 2004-02-02 11:39.Latina Pro Populo, also titled Latin For People, is a good introduction to the Latin language.
It covers basic Latin grammar and vocabulary. While Latin is known (deservedly so) as a complex language, this book does a good job of providing the basics, allowing the reader to actually read and comprehend simple Latin sentences in just a short amount of time.
Anyone who is simply curious about Latin, without the desire to spend years of study just to read a sentence or two, would find this book to be a great starting place.
Sacred Languages
Submitted by amillar on Mon, 2004-02-02 11:39.Sacred Languages by Paul Auvray et. al. gives an overview, and history of the the development of, the languages in the Christian Bible. Specifically, it covers Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin.
If you are merely curious about these languages without wanting to become a scholar in them, this book is a great starting point.
